SUNDAY WISDOM

Learning acquired in youth arrests the evil of old age; and if you understand that old age has wisdom for its food, you will so conduct yourself in youth that your old age will not lack for nourishment.

–Leonardo da Vinci

This one’s an algebra equation! I just want plenty of food when I’m old. Do I pass??? Have a nice day! :-)

This one needed some good ol fashion thought. Recalling my youth, I have a memory of an occurance that happened November 24th, 1963. The burial of JFK. My recollection was of the horse with the boots backwards in the stirrups as JFK was taken from The White House. I was born just a little over 5 months prior to this date.
That’s when Barn started his feeding frenzy. Been chowin ever since. Every day…Eat eat eat.
I still liken my body as the ultimate recording device. And yeah! I’m takin it all with me.
    Prophet? Surfs up!
    Be well,

The world is very different now. For man holds in his mortal hands the power to abolish all forms of human poverty and all forms of human life. And yet the same revolutionary beliefs for which our forebears fought are still at issue around the globe–the belief that the rights of man come not from the generosity of the state but from the hand of God.

Food for Thought, thanks Barn, I looked for a photo of the backward boots and found it.

I was in the second grade when Kennedy was killed. We were let out of school early. The bus ride was quite an adventure, it was fast a bumpy. I flew up high in my seat over the big bump in the road. I didn’t know what really happen till I got home and saw it on the black and white television. Everyone was sad.

According to historical records, Abraham Lincoln was the first President of the United States honored by the inclusion of the caparisoned horse in his funeral cortege. When his body was taken from the White House to lie in state in the Capitol rotunda, the casket was followed by the dead president’s horse with its master’s boots backwards in the stirrups.

In order for the caparisoned horse to be used, the person it is honoring must have at one time been an Army or Marine Corps colonel or above.

Since the president of the United States is the commander-in-chief of the armed forces, he is entitled to the use of the horse.

Barn, I remember seeing the backward boots but never thought about the meaning- The Fallen Warrior. Now that I am older and have sons. It was a time of black and white turning to Color TV. The Nation was in mourning, we were all glued to the TV.

If you are killed in battle. A U.S. Soldier has his boots and his weapon barrel down in the dirt on bayonet, and the steel pot on the butt. It’s a salute.
Too many correlations between Honest Abe, and JFK.
    Be well,

Every year I watched “The Wizard of Oz” in black and white. I got a job in the 12th grade and bought a color TV. “WOW” I watched “The Wizard of Oz” and never knew that it turned to color when she landed in OZ.
We didn’t rent movies or have cable, I had to wait till the spring to see, “The Wizard of Oz” and now I will buy it for my granddaughter. Life changes yet stays the same. And I still love that movie……..and the ruby slippers.

Life is good when you are at an Inaugural Breakfast for Obama and say,”He was born on my birthday.” The older white hair intelligent lady says,”You mean you were born on his birthday?” It was one of my good days, plenty of sleep.
We got smart and now we have a candle with a number, and I love every year. I never thought I would live to see an African American as President.
